Windows 7 is here. Now what?

So now that Windows 7 is on the market I bet you’re thinking: Ok, this is great, but what do I do now? Well the answer is simple. If you have not already upgraded your first task is to determine which version is right for you. That’s where we at CDR Services, Inc. come in. You see, we’ve been playing with Windows 7 since March and, well, we kinda do this for a living.

So without further ado, here are your best upgrade options based on general user needs.

Version Comparison:

Ok, so there are basically three versions that are worth having. The others? Well, we would just avoid them if we were you. These will fit the general needs of most of our clients, but should you have questions specific to your case please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Windows 7 Home Premium:
This is the version to get for home use or for PC gaming. Period. Don’t waste your money on Ultimate unless you really, really want to spend another $100 or so just for bitlocker.

Windows 7 Professional:
This will be the defunct office version. Just like in XP and Vista you do NOT want to run a Home version in the office (or on any machine which connects or is part of a work Domain).

Windows 7 Ultimate:
Got the cash, go for it. You probably won’t need it, but hey some of us just want everything. Think of this version as Pro and Home Premium all packed together into one nice little bundle with some extra fluff thrown in for people who like to tweek.

  1. Ok. Loving Windows 7. Have not had even ONE issue so far with it. Gonna convert all of mine to 7 now that the first round of major patches has been released.
