Shake up your desktop!
If you frequently run multiple programs simultaneously like I do, your desktop can get extremely cluttered very quickly. Of course this tends to get very annoying very quickly, especially if you’re working on one program and want to minimize all the other windows without having to minimize each one. In all previous versions of Windows before Windows 7 you had to minimize them one by one or do a ‘win-d’ keyboard shortcut and then re-open the window you wanted to work in. Luckily there is now a better way.
With one new feature in Windows 7 we finally have relief from this nightmare. Through the “shake” feature you can quickly minimize every window except the one in which you’re currently working, in a one single step. Here’s how:
Click and hold the title bar of the window you want to keep on the desktop (the blue/solid bar where the application title is located); while still holding the title bar, shake it quickly back and forth using your mouse until all of the other windows minimize to the taskbar. Then let go. Tada! No more multiple windows! Yep, easy huh?
Oh you want all those other programs to come back again…no problem. To make them return, just shake the title bar again. Blam, instant return to where you were with all the windows open. This along with the ‘snap’ feature saves countless clicks and wasted time. I love it.
Keyboard shortcut for windows shake
For those of you that prefer keyboard shortcuts (who needs a mouse anyway!). You can implement the same result as shake by pressing the Window key+Home key combination, although I’m not sure doing it this way is quite as much fun. I prefer letting my aggression out over short-jerky mouse movements all over the screen in little bits of rage. Of course pounding on the keyboard works too I guess.
